Time to Update Your Trade Show Materials

As we all get back to work and get the kids back to school, it’s time to get organized for a successful fall trade show season. Most companies exhibit at a number of different trade shows every fall to boost sales for the end of the year and set-up their new-year business development pipelines.

We do the same at Gossett Marketing. And this year our first show is in early September and after reviewing our current materials we realized it was time for some updates. We have designed a whole new table top display. While our previous one was only about 5 years old we felt it was looking dated. Plus with improved technology our new display is going to be much lighter and easier to “pop-up” on the table. We also got a new table throw so our whole “look” will be coordinated.

If you are promoting your business and your display is outdated or looks a bit ragged and over-used, it’s probably something you should invest in this year. As you know, it’s always better to put your best foot (or booth in this instance) forward!

Of course, the booth gets your prospects attention, but you want to give them something that will remind them of you after they get back to the office. So as you can imagine we are always looking for inexpensive but effective and useful items that will do just that. Yes, everyone can use a pen and there are some great ones out there, especially some of the newer pens with a stylus, but there are other great items that might grab your prospects attention.

Some of our hot recommendations currently include these lower cost suggestions: Cleaning cloths for digital devices, a smartphone card holder (adheres to the back of phones and holds business cards or credit cards), new customized convention tote bags, earbuds, car charger, rally towels, new round lip balm, funky sunglasses (with your logo on the lenses) and special shaped stress relievers.

And of course you don’t want to forget about your brochures and fliers so that everything works together!!

Remember, most trade shows are a great introduction of your business to new prospects so be sure and stand out!!

Time to Bring Back Holiday Greeting Cards

I don’t know about you, but I still like to get mail. I mean the mail from the mail carrier. Something you have to open by hand, not an email that is so easily dismissed. I send hand written “thank you” notes occasionally and actually need to do that more often as I always get a nice “wow” a hand written note. How do I know? They usually call me to thank me for the note. Talk about standing out.

Anyway, if you are like me, when you get into the office you have hundreds emails waiting and to be perfectly honest, if you are like me, you start going down the list hitting the delete button. However, when I get the mail if an envelope looks interesting, is from someone I know or is “bulky” I’ll open it. Sure I throw out the “junk” mail without opening it, but even that at times gets a glance. Not the email ones though.

I do recognize that budgets are an issue and an email card recognizing a birthday or such can make it so easy and affordable (and granted I do enjoy those that sing to me) but when it comes to the holidays, I truly appreciate a real card. I know a lot of my vendors and clients have switched to e-cards but I know I’m not getting them all. Many get caught up in my firewall as spam. So, how is that saying thank you for the year or celebrating the holiday?

So, I’m advocating we got back to the old way of recognizing the holidays with a card. And there are cards for all holidays,

religious or generic but they all can help you show your clients and prospects that you’re thinking about them this holiday season.

And many times the holiday card can be so much more than just a one-dimensional greeting. I personally love the dimensional ones. For instance, one year we sent out a card that popped open into a paper poinsettia plant that sat on desks all over town, for months I might add. Another year we sent out a card with a seed ornament that was a reindeer. You could either plant the card and grow sage or it had ribbon so you could hang it like an ornament. So many comments on that one too! We’ve done others that have opened into stars or even annual calendars – which I still see on walls around our client’s offices.

I know it’s still early, but if you want to stand out this holiday season (and you could start at Halloween or Thanksgiving or even wait for the Happy New Year) why not start now and plan on sending a unique holiday greeting. Let us know if we can help.

Some Good Eats Happening in Miami this Summer!

As you know, we are in Miami, Florida and for many you think we are on vacation all the time. I can’t begin to tell you how many times people have said when they visit, “why don’t you have a tan.” Well, I work. So while I might live in a vacation paradise, I don’t get to enjoy it every day.

However, I am going to start enjoying more of our restaurants for the next couple of months because we are in Miami Spice season. This wonderful promotion by the restaurants of the region began many years ago to encourage people to dine out more during the slow summer months.

Now, I really don’t think we have a slow season per se anymore, but I appreciate that they still do this. The Greater Miami Convention & Visitor’s Bureau was the brainchild (well, actually restaurant City Hall, I understand was the first to initiate it) of this two month program.

This year more than 200 restaurants are offering 3 course lunches and dinners for $23 and $39 respectively. Some of very

expensive restaurants that I might not otherwise visit, but during “spice” we will. I know that last year we visited Azul thinking we’d never go other than Spice but we were wrong. Yum!

Anyway, it’s a great promotion and the concept has been expanded so that you can find a great program most any month of the year. This July/August we also had Miami Spa months. Need a great facial or massage, so many options to choose from. Want romance in your life? Check out some great programs in the month of February.

I’m heading out tonight and already have reservations for Saturday! I can’t wait both options this week are on the water. The Chart House and Seaspice. They each have a very different atmosphere, but I am sure the food will be so tasty.

So, if you live within a few hours it might be worth a drive sometime over the next couple of months, if  you’re not in the area maybe you might want to plan a visit soon!
